Here be dragons! The Balaur on the label of this R

Here be dragons! The Balaur on the label of this Romanian pink is a mythic beast of the region. And here we have a rosé with an intriguing hint of rust colour in the glass and a waft of spice on the palate. There is also just a suggestion of prickle on the tongue. I would recommend this with game dishes such as wild boar or pheasant casserole. It will slice through any heaviness in the dish and leave a satisfying finish. I award this affordable wine 18 points. #winetips #rosewine

I’m fresh back from Australia - where, I must confess, I did find their sense of humour a little different to ours. But this label has to incorporate that old cliche about a bird in hand being worth two .. in the bush? The label divides drinkers, judging from reviews I’ve seen. Personally I rather love it - and of course Michael Jackson sprang to mind. So .. is this South Australian Pinot Noir pink a .. thriller? It’s more of a crowd pleaser I would suggest. On the nose there´s cranberry and mulberry, with sufficient acidity and a good sustained finish. Try it with tomato dishes which are notoriously tricky to pair. I should add that the winery's eco credentials are impeccable. I award this wine 17.5 points. #wineloversofinstagram #roséallday #fridaynightrosé

Here’s a thought - it’s snowing outside so when you return from a bracing afternoon walk why not break with tradition - and offer yourselves a delicious off dry glass of pretty Prosecco and a slice of homemade banana bread? Tea and crumpets can wait. Take it from me: this works! Instant mood lifter and as the alcohol is only 10.5% it isn’t even naughty… not very. ….i award this 17 points.

Could this be Italy? Or maybe California? No - I am visiting the scenic Mornington Peninsula in Australia. Just a short drive from Melbourne brings you to this charming environment - a beach playground for the affluent Australian and home to some excellent wineries. I’m in the aptly named town of Sorrento @italico.sorrento sampling superb focaccia and spaghetti vongole with my glass of spicy rosé made by Portsea. All’s right with the world. I award this wine 18 points.
