Juan Gil (Familia Gil) – Juan Gil Organic Rose
A JuicyJumilla today- this unusual organic Spanish pink enjoys a short stay in oak which gives it structure without heaviness on the palate. Produced from Syrah, a spicy favourite grape of mine – and Petit Verdot which has its origins in Bordeaux. This would be a striking choice for a sophisticated Valentine supper à deux. There’s a hint of aniseed here and wild herbs on the finish. What a great match for wild salmon or trout. I award it 18 points. The lovely wood carving comes from Cape Verde by the way.

About this Vineyard
Founded in 1916 by stonemason Juan Gil Gimenez in the sun-baked hills of Jumilla in southeastern Spain, Bodegas Juan Gil has been in the same family for over a century and four generations. Now spearheaded by Miguel and Angel Gil Vera as the fifth generation, the group has expanded to encompass eleven wineries across Spain’s key wine regions, with the flagship Jumilla estate specialising in the indigenous Monastrell grape. Committed to organic viticulture across their entire range, Gil Family Estates exports to more than 40 countries and is on a mission to become completely energy self-sufficient.
