Gusbourne – Gusbourne Rose Brut

In celebration of National Champagne Day raising a glass of delightful dry Gusbourne rosé fizz from Kent, not Champagne of course but made by the traditional method from the hallowed trio: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. This prior to an excellent Sunday lunch in Cheltenham featuring locally sourced seasonal ingredients and a noticeably well executed spicy red cabbage, a personal favourite. Not pink wine with this course, instead a sturdy red Pegoes from Portugal. It’s been a diverse week for this wine writer. Could not resist posting this pink image from the Veneto taken in warm autumn light.

About this Vineyard

Gusbourne is England’s most awarded sparkling wine producer, with an estate in Appledore, Kent, whose history stretches back generations — the de Goosebourne family crest of three geese still adorns every bottle. Andrew Weeber planted the first vines with a single-minded goal of creating English sparkling wine to rival the world’s finest, and the debut vintages were released to critical acclaim. With 60 hectares in Kent and 30 in West Sussex on chalk soils, growing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier from Burgundian clones, Gusbourne is the only three-time winner of the IWSC English Wine Producer of the Year.
