McGuigan – McGuigan Single Batch Project Dry Rose

Australia- I owe you an apology. Your pink wines have not featured often enough in my Report. So let’s start to remedy that today with this versatile rosé from the McGuigan stable. In my mind I associate this brand with full throttle red wines so the subtlety of this Grenache wine is a great contrast. On the day It was sampled I happened to be making a favourite pasta dish – with sardines and tender stem broccoli. It’s an adaptation of the Puglian classic – Conchigliette con I Broccoli e le Acciughe. Sardines make it a little less salty. Cook the broccoli al dente, chop. Meanwhile boil water for pasta of your choice. Put a can of sardines in a fry pan and mash lightly – add a knob of butter, the broccoli and grated Parmesan to taste. Stir it up well then add to drained pasta with extra Parmesan and black pepper. It’s good for you but tastes decadent! And this pink wine proved an excellent pairing, with enough heft to tackle those sardines.

About this Vineyard

The McGuigan family has been growing and making wine in Australia’s Hunter Valley since the 1880s, when Owen McGuigan first tended vines at Rothbury. Brian McGuigan founded the modern wine company in 1992, building on the legacy of his father Perc, who was inducted as a Hunter Valley Legend for helping shift Australian consumer tastes towards lighter dry table wines. McGuigan has been crowned International Winemaker of the Year a record four times — in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2016 — making it one of Australia’s most decorated wine brands.
