Bodegas Aragonesas – Solo Dry Rose
Fascinating tale behind this wine. It was created as a sort of ‘pandemic project ‘ in collaboration with Co-Op members/shoppers. So it’s designed by consumers not producers. And what did they want? A stylish, slightly unusual bottle with a chic line drawing on the label and a pale and fruity pink within. Does this wine from the high plateaux of Aragon fit the brief? It is certainly affordable, at under £7.50 a bottle. There is floral warmth on the nose- faint peony- and a good hit of curranty fruit in the mouth before a satisfying hit of acidity to conclude. It ain’t Provence but it hits the spot well and looks great on the table. It would go very well with a huge range of food. Go on, try it with a midweek pizza. Trust me, it works!

About this Vineyard
Located in the town of Fuendejalon in Spain’s Campo de Borja – proudly known as ‘El Imperio de Garnacha’ (the Empire of Grenache) – Bodegas Aragonesas is the region’s largest winery, with roots stretching back to Cistercian monks who first planted Garnacha here. Officially founded, the bodega works 3,700 hectares and claims the world’s biggest extension of old-vine Grenache vineyards, producing around seven million bottles annually. Their commitment to sustainability includes a state-of-the-art winery powered in part by solar panels, and their wines – from the approachable Don Ramon to the mighty Fagus – are powerful, smooth, and unmistakably Garnacha.
