Domaine Saint Ferreol – Tavel Rose
Let’s celebrate International Rosé Day by going back to the the roots of rosé in France. I recall lecturing on pink wines years ago. And Tavel was synonymous with that section of the wine list. Here in the southerly corner of the Rhône Valley they produce unashamedly russet rosé, faintly spicy, with a scent of violet and dried fruits. A wine for sophisticates and gourmets and a pink wine for food. This would match roast lamb or sole meunière with equal aplomb. And I bought it at- Lidl (in France). Seek one out for yourself and sample a little tradition on your palate.

About this Vineyard
Domaine Saint Ferreol’s Tavel Rose is produced in collaboration with Gabriel Meffre, one of the Rhone Valley’s most respected negociant houses, which has been at the heart of the region. Tavel, the only appellation in France dedicated exclusively to rose, has a glorious history — it was famously the favourite wine of King Louis XIV. The Saint Ferreol cuvee blends fruit from three classic Tavel terroirs: limestone slate from the upper slopes, cobblestones from the mid-level terraces, and sandy gravel near the Rhone river, using Mourvedre, Cinsault, Syrah, and Grenache.
