Marisco Vineyards – The King’s Desire Pinot Noir Rose

What better way to spend a Saturday than enjoying a glass of rosé in the spring sunshine. This weekend’s pick was the King’s Desire.

New Zealand Pinot Noir has many admirers and this rosé expresses some of its versatility.

Despite all the pandemic problems the 2020 harvest in Marlborough was a triumph so there is plenty of ripe fruit here, well handled by winemaker Brent Marris, of Ned fame.

Why the King’s Desire? Well, it’s a family story at Marisco that King Henry 1st of England fathered numerous illegitimate children, including one of their ancestors. An assertive claim and the label reflects that attitude!

Could be that this stylish pink with its smooth finish may help realise your desires on Valentine’s Day.

About this Vineyard

Marisco Vineyards was created in 2003 by Brent Marris, Marlborough’s first locally born and raised qualified winemaker, whose father John planted the region’s very first vineyards for Montana Wines back in 1973. Named after Brent’s ancestor William de Marisco, and sited on a magnificent property on the banks of the Waihopai River, the winery was crowned New Zealand Winery of the Year at the 2011 International Wine and Spirits Challenge just five years after releasing its first wine. With three internationally successful brands under his belt — including The Ned and Leefield Station — Brent Marris is firmly established as one of New Zealand’s most respected winemakers.
