Aldi – Aldi Rose
Getting brave about wine choice in a supermarket can be a challenge.
How do you make a choice from the bewildering selection in front of you – so easy just to choose another Rioja or Chilean Sauvignon Blanc.
Take the reverse view. If you usually choose red, how about a pink? If you associate fizz with Champagne, how about sampling something sparkling but less expensive, from another region familiar to you?
Remember, like so often in life, nobody is watching you. If you make a mistake and buy a bottle that isn’t so great, what does it matter? At best it might open your eyes and your palate. At worst, it can make for a brilliant gravy for Sunday lunch.
My suggestion would be take a break from your usual safe bets as often as you can. If you love Pinot Noir, then try an English fizz made with that grape, or look to Oregon or New Zealand.
If you like a Provence pink, then get over your preference for pale and just for once try a rosé that has more colour in its cheeks. Could be a revelation!

About this Vineyard
The Frescobaldi family has been producing wine in Tuscany for over 700 years, beginning, when a young Michelangelo is documented to have traded artwork for their wine. This Florentine noble family, who once financed the English Crown and built the first bridge over the Arno, now farms nine estates across Tuscany, from the eternal Castello Nipozzano to the coastal Tenuta Ammiraglia and the hills of Montalcino’s CastelGiocondo. Now in its 30th generation, Frescobaldi’s modern story includes a remarkable social project on Gorgona Island — Europe’s only island prison — where inmates learn viticulture and winemaking.
