Schloss Gobelsburg – Schloss Gobelsburg Rose

A delectable blend of flavour and colour at Fischers in Marylebone today. The Gobelsburg pink from Austria has enough depth to counter the zingy tartness and earthiness of well made borscht soup. Then the rest of the glass worked perfectly with sea bream. Those two courses on a prix fixe menu for just over £20. All of these elements, combined with exceptional people watching, made for an ideal solitary lunch. And, as ever, the staff were perfection.

About this Vineyard

Schloss Gobelsburg is the oldest winery in the Danube region, with a winemaking history stretching back generations when the Cistercian monks of Zwettl monastery were first granted the vineyards of Heiligenstein and Gaisberg in Austria’s Kamptal. The Renaissance castle, renovated in baroque style, was revitalised for the modern era by Eva and Michael Moosbrugger, who took over and have since restored it to the pinnacle of Austrian winemaking. Michael was named Falstaff ‘Winemaker of the Year’, and the estate’s Gruner Veltliner and Riesling – grown on ancient loess and Permian desert sandstone soils – are among the most acclaimed white wines in Europe.
