Montelvini – Il Brutto Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG Sui Lieviti
I have a confession to make. This is not really a pink wine. Yes,I know. Shame on me. I added a tiny dash of raspberry liqueur to this exceptional extra-brut Prosecco as an experiment. It was one of several wines I sampled during an online tasting today and because it has great depth because of its ‘sur lie’ or ‘sui lieviti’ character I felt it could withstand a little addition. This wine is from the small Prosecco area of Asolo- which has a notable selection of intriguing wines made with the classic Glera grape and a couple of other local varieties. And the result? A pink aperitif which is refreshing but … the original fizz spoke for itself- zappy with minerality and a zing of salt at the finish. If your palate is jaded by everyday Prosecco – look out for Asolo on the label. Worth the quest.

About this Vineyard
Montelvini is a fifth-generation family winery founded by the Serena family in 1881 in the hills between Asolo and Treviso in the Veneto, with an owl as their logo — a symbol of the wisdom needed to select the finest grapes from this land historically known as Zuitere, the land of owls. Under the leadership of President Armando Serena and his children, Montelvini has become the foremost ambassador of Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Italy’s rarest and most exclusive Prosecco denomination. In a landmark achievement, they recently released the first-ever single-vineyard Cru of the Asolo DOCG appellation and are currently resurrecting a 16th-century vineyard in the heart of Asolo with 200-year-old Glera vines.
