Gris (Lidl) – Gris Sable de Camargue Rose

Delicate, pink, classy- just like a flamingo! This unexpected delight from has been a joy as a lunchtime wine. Zingy, faintly salty- yet also redolent of fruit. I award it 17 points.

About this Vineyard

This is a Lidl own-label wine from the Sable de Camargue appellation in southern France, a unique coastal wine region known for its ‘Gris de Gris’ roses made predominantly from Grenache Gris grapes grown in sandy soils along the Mediterranean. The Camargue’s vineyards, famous for their wild horses and flamingos, produce some of France’s palest and most delicate roses — the sandy soils never hosted phylloxera, meaning many vines are ungrafted. As with all Lidl wines, the specific producing estate is not prominently displayed, but the appellation itself is one of France’s most charming and distinctive.
