Chateau Miraval – Chateau Miraval Rose
You can be judged for choosing to drink rosé in a restaurant. Some places only list it in summer, some think it frivolous.
We know that pink wine is for all seasons. So how do you persuade a sommelier?
France is a very tricky place for this. Note this image of a French wine list: just one rosé, and that is of course from Provence. Nothing wrong with that, but lacks imagination.
So go for an alternative if you can, but ensure you check with the wine waiter that you haven’t accidentally ordered something sweet. That can be a shock, and an embarrassment for you, and your guests.
So how to impress your snooty sommelier? It’s relatively simple. First, take out a discreet and elegant notebook and pen from your pocket. Open it purposefully and as the waiter waves the bottle over you, take hold and note the name of the wine. This shows you are what the French call sérieux (even if you aren’t).
Next, when the sample is poured, hold it up briefly, swirl meaningfully in the glass, and breathe it in. No need to taste it – just nod, and say ‘fine’ or perhaps ‘bon’. The fact you apparently knew it was ok by nose alone impresses. Tasting only confirms what the nose tells you and usually it’s an experienced wine lover who does this. The sommelier should be silenced. Let me know if it works!

About this Vineyard
With roots stretching back to a 13th-century monastery in the Provencal village of Correns, Chateau Miraval rocketed to global fame when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie purchased the estate and partnered with the Perrin family of Chateauneuf-du-Pape’s Chateau de Beaucastel to produce their debut rose. that vintage sold out within hours of release, and Miraval has been one of the world’s most recognised rose brands ever since.
