La Vieille Ferme Rosé 2022
In the same stable with fabled Rhône house Beaucastel and Provençal Miraval (yes, the one with Hollywood connections) is this simple yet honourable offering from the house of Perrin. Its stylish presentation and exceptional balance represent extraordinary value at this price point. Essentially you have here a classic southern French rosé at a bargain supermarket price. Hard to argue with that. There are berry fruits on the nose, a hint of pomegranate, and a smooth finish with just a hint of nutmeg spice. Try it with Asian cuisine to emphasise its softer notes or pair with any mushroom dish.
……..a classic southern French rosé at a bargain supermarket price. Hard to argue with that.
Produced in the glorious surroundings of the southern Rhône Valley, near the Roman city of Orange, this wine is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault, grown on Lubéron hillsides. This means it gains structure and a hint of the savoury deriving from the grapes. Syrah is classically famed for a note of black pepper, and that is quite detectable here. What is surprising is that there is so much to enjoy in what is quite frankly a commercial wine style.
Although it is very enjoyable to sip by itself, this wine also pairs very well with food and could be seen as a gastronomic style.
